Coatings, product labelling

You can document and prove the quality of your coatings, lacquers and paint. This benefits your marketing and sales strategy, helps to increase sales in new and established markets

Proving quality

By proving the quality of coating products, manufacturers and suppliers gain better market access and increase sales. As a test mark certifies the quality of the coating, lacquer or paint, labelling is key to your success in your sales and marketing strategy.

Our TÜV Rheinland experts conduct performance tests in our labs prior to market launch and after introduction on the market and will test random market samples to ensure the coating, lacquer or paint still comply with the standards as referred to with the product label.

For quality. Test Mark of TÜV Rheinland.

TÜV Rheinland Logo, Contact us at info@nl.tuv.comOur test mark is the visible indication of the highest possible quality in testing products, services, systems and processes in all sectors. The testmark consists of the shield with logo of TÜV Rheinland and a ID of the test. Furthermore external testmarks, a QR-code and year rings can be added to provide more information about the test, inspection or certification.

1 QR code

TUV Rheinland keurmerk keywords trefwoorden en IDThe QR code (QR stands for ‘quick response’) has been added to the test mark at the request of customers. Scanning it with a smart phone provides direct access to the certification database Certipedia by TÜV Rheinland.

On Certipedia comprehensive information about products, manufacturers and tests is available. Also photos, videos and descriptive text can be added.

2 ID number

As before, you can access the web page of the newly revised certification database by entering the ten-digit test ID number on Certipedia (former tuvdotcom.com). Those who wish to learn more about the test can find even more comprehensive details on Certipedia than before.

RoHS 2, extended scope

TÜV Rheinland Logo, Contact us at info@nl.tuv.comTen years after the introduction of RoHS, a new European Union RoHS Directive (known as RoHS Recast or RoHS 2) has been adopted since January 2, 2013. The original RoHS Directive (2002/95/EC) was brought into force in order to limit the component concentration of six hazardous substances found in EEE as they are harmful to the environment.

Change of scope

RoHS 2 is an updated version of RoHS. There are no additions to or difference in the six restricted substances. However, significant changes are in terms of scope that has been extended to ALL electrical and electronic equipment including medical devices, monitoring and control instruments. TÜV Rheinland Logo, Contact us at info@nl.tuv.comAdditionally RoHS 2 is now included in the group of CE marking directives, implying that manufacturers must now assure it is also RoHS 2 compliant beside any other relevant CE directive before applying the CE mark to a product.
Revisions to the law also impact exemptions, data collection, risk management, and technical documentation as per EN 50581:2012.

Testing or certification. What is the difference?

Testing versus certification

Testing

TÜV Rheinland Logo, Contact us at info@nl.tuv.comTesting is checking if a product fulfills the requirements of a certain standard, testing results in a test report (not a certificate), it reflects the status of that one product (not: the production) on that moment and doesn’t say anything about the quality of the ongoing production.
Mandatory for Initial Type Testing of a product.

Certification

TÜV Rheinland Logo, Contact us at info@nl.tuv.comCertification is an ongoing process: the manufacturing of the product is under continuous surveillance by the certification body. If test results and audit results are positive, certification results in a certificate

Certification and testing of glass by TÜV Rheinland

TÜV Rheinland Logo, Contact us at info@nl.tuv.com
TÜV Rheinland has a specialized group of people, based in the Netherlands, performing testing, inspections and certification of building materials. Products that can be certified are glass as used in building constructions (float, heat strengthened, tempered, coated, laminated glass, insulating glass units, fire – bullet – explosion resistant glass etc.), windows and doors, curtain walling, smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems (SHEV’s) and sealants.

After products have been tested on aspects such as strength and durability, mechanical stability, safety, energy economy, sustainable use of natural resources and quality in own TÜV Rheinland or other accredited labs, the products can be certified.

Certification of glass

Certification activities include making a certification contract, performing initial audits, initial factory inspections, sample taking audits (for products with certain safety related properties), Factory Production Control (FPC) audits and other surveillance audits.

Clients often think that after a test a certificate will be issued. But testing is checking a product or service by use of a set of requirements and test methods (a standard) if that product/service fulfills the requirements of that standard. Testing results in a test report (not a certificate), it reflects the status of that one product (not: the production) on that moment. A test report says nothing about the quality of the ongoing production.
Certification is an ongoing process: the fabrication of the product is under continuous surveillance by the certification body, certification results in a certificate, if test results and audit results were and stay positive.

Certification of glass, voluntary of mandatory?

Certification of a construction products like glass can be voluntary or mandatory. It depends on the Attestation of Conformity system (level) of the product with its characteristics under the old Construction Products Directive or, from 1 July 2013, the ‘Systems of assessment and verification of constancy of performance’ under the new Construction Products Regulation EU No 305/2011 (law from 1 July in all EU member states).

In case of fire, bullet or explosion resistant materials, mostly system 1 is applicable, meaning that certification is mandatory. Clients can also decide for voluntary certification, to distinguish themselves from their competitors.
